{"id":165,"date":"2017-11-13T08:36:13","date_gmt":"2017-11-13T13:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"\/blog\/?p=165"},"modified":"2019-04-06T14:38:23","modified_gmt":"2019-04-06T18:38:23","slug":"mountain-pie-championship-recipes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.driftstone.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/13\/mountain-pie-championship-recipes\/","title":{"rendered":"Mountain Pie Championship Recipes!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-172 alignleft\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSCN0637-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.driftstone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSCN0637-1.jpg 2961w, http:\/\/www.driftstone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSCN0637-1-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.driftstone.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DSCN0637-1-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/>Each year, for the last three years, Driftstone has held a Mountain Pie Championship for any and all campers looking to try an interesting recipe cooked in a pie iron.\u00a0 There are two categories, Savory and Sweet.\u00a0 The first place winner from each category earns an entry into the state Mountain Pie Championship presented by the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA).\u00a0 The championship is held at the Gratz Fair in Gratz, Pennsylvania each year.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s state championship recipes were judged solely on the recipe itself by a panel of judges organized by PCOA.\u00a0 Representing Driftstone were recipes by Lisa Dress (Savory) and Lauren Hurler (Sweet).\u00a0 Our campers came through with winning recipes, Lauren placed 1st in the Sweet Category and Lisa placed 3rd in the Savory Category.\u00a0 For your cooking pleasure here are their winning recipes:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Campfire Empanadas<\/strong> (Lisa Dress) &#8211; Makes 2 Mountain Pies.\u00a0 <em>Ingredients:<\/em>\u00a0 1\/2 lb. Ground Beef, 1\/4 Cup Pepper chopped, 1\/4 Cup Onion chopped, 1 packet Taco Seasoning, 1\/2 Cup Salsa, 1\/2 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese, Empanada dough.\u00a0 <em>Directions:<\/em>\u00a0 Combine ground beef, peppers, onions and taco seasoning, cooking to desired doneness.\u00a0 Spray mountain pie iron with cooking spray or oil.\u00a0 Line the pie iron with empanada dough (store bought or homemade).\u00a0 Fill with beef mixture, salsa and shredded cheddar cheese.\u00a0 Cook on an open fire until dough is crusty.\u00a0 Serve with favorite salsa or sauce.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Praline Pecan Honey Butter Apple Pie<\/strong> (Lauren Hurler) &#8211; Makes 2 Mountain Pies.\u00a0 <em>Ingredients:<\/em>\u00a0 2 Pink Lady Apples chopped into small pieces, 1\/2 to 3\/4 stick of Margarine or Salted Butter, 1\/8 Cup Pecans, 1\/8 to 1\/4 tsp. Cinnamon, 2 Tbsp. Honey, 1 Tbsp. Granulated Sugar, 1 Tbsp.
